At the Division for Empirical Educational Research, our focus is on identfying causes of educational inequalities between student groups from different social and ethnic background and gender identities in school and universities. We are particularly interested in understanding the role that social learning environments, and particulary peer relations, play in the development of these inequalities.

To answer our research questions, we use a variety of methodological approaches. Of particular importance is the method of social network analysis to describe students' social learning environment in analogue and digital learning environments. The long-term goal is to translate our research findings into concrete strategies for overcoming these inequalities. Click here for further information.
