The Division for “School Pedagogy with the focus on teaching and learning research" is concerned with the competencies of pre-service teachers and the learning opportunities offered to them in the context of their studies in the field of professionalization and teacher research. We are particularly interested in school internships and the effects of situated learning.
In the field of teaching and learning research, we focus on the topics of social inequality and the relationship between characteristics of student heterogeneity and their cognitive and non-cognitive learning outcomes. The emphasis is on characteristics of socio-cultural background and special educational needs and the question of how the associated social disparities can be reduced.
To answer out research questions, we work with (quasi-) experimental designs and data from large scale assessments (especially PISA) and use mainly standardised survey and evaluation methods.
